The main question many people have regarding CBD is, “Isn’t that stuff illegal tho?” In short, CBD is LEGAL in the UK! However, due to the UK’s varied and sometimes ludicrous drug laws, it can be confusing.

The two most common cannabinoids are THC & CBD. THC is the compound which most people associate with cannabis; this is the molecule that makes users high! Whereas CBD is a non-psychoactive compound which offers much more to the user in the form of having anxiolytic properties (anxiety-easing effects), anti-inflammatory actions, pain relief, and potential to help with acne due to the inhibiting actions of the sebaceous glands (this gland produces oil to the skin but can cause acne when clogged)

Generally, if a CBD product has less than 0.2%THC, it’s legal in the UK. However, this is a grey area in the CBD flower department. The law stated that full flowers were illegal, even if they were under the 0.2%THC limit. However, a petition calling to “Legalise the use of CBD in flower and leaf form“ was recently rejected for the reason being“We’re not sure exactly what you’d like the Government or Parliament to do. CBD flowers are currently legal below 0.2.” So one would be right to be confused by this situation. At this point, it sort of feels to be at our own discretion. (I have contacted the local police station for further information and advice on this matter). They have replied with an email stating that

“CBD flowers are currently legal below 0.2% (THC content) from which I would surmise CBD flowers are already being grown for use in other CBD-related products, but have a THC content of less than 0.2% meeting the legal requirements.”

After this email, it again shows support in the fact that CBD flowers are LEGAL if they are under the 0.2%THC limit!

In conclusion, there is a pretty good understanding of what CBD is legal in the UK, such as oils, topicals, edibles, patches, vapes, and, funnily enough, ground CBD flower. The grey area only really applies to full flower buds, and a grey area is the best way to describe it, as there are two opposing views of it, both from our Government!
